This project reviewed the practices in collecting, storing and other handling of private information in state institutions (including law enforcement), the practices of a privacy protection in media reports, personal data protection in healthcare providers and in insurance agencies.
The overall objective of this project was to contribute to the democratization and human rightsprotection processes in Kosovo trough increasing individual trust in government and private sector institutions with a particular emphasis on upholding and strengthening the individual freedoms such as the right to privacy.
The project aimed specifically to raise awareness of the general public and key stakeholders regarding the issue of the right on privacy, to enable them to efficiently and effectively require and provide protection of this fundamental human right, to increase individuals trust in government institutions, to establish practices for protection of privacy rights and to advocate for the establishment of policies and structures to uphold the right to privacy.
This project reviewed the practices in collecting, storing and other handling of private information in state institutions (including law enforcement), the practices of a privacy protection in media reports, personal data protection in healthcare providers and in insurance agencies. The project provided an analysis of the legal and institutional framework for protection of privacy rights, to be used by the government and civil society as a baseline for preparing and implementing policies and initiatives in the area of privacy rights.
A report was published and distributed to all main target groups. The findings were also presented on a media conference where accompanying material was made available to the interested parties from press and public.
All proposed activities have been designed to adequately respond to multidimensional needs of target groups, and capacitating respective civil society organizations and government structures to adequately tackle and respond to their rights. A discussion forum between the key stakeholders: government, public and private sector, as well as the civil society was established through this project.
